Lesson Excerpt
One time on a hunting trip in Mississippi, Roosevelt was asked to shoot a black bear that had been caught and tied to a tree. Roosevelt refused. However, a political cartoon was drawn showing Roosevelt refusing to shoot a bear. This cartoon inspired a Brooklyn store owner to create a new toy, a stuffed bear with a sign that read, “Teddy’s bear”. Thus, how we got the teddy bear.
