Lesson Excerpt
There are four types of sentences:
1. Telling Sentences. This kind of sentence tells us something or states a fact. Telling sentences end with a period. For example:
• The Smithsonian museum is called America’s Attic.
• In 1855, the Smithsonian’s first building was the Castle.
2. Asking Sentences. This kind of sentence asks a question. Asking sentences often begin with a word that asks. Who, what, when, where, why, did, and does are words that ask questions. Asking sentences always end with a question mark. For example:
• Have you ever been to the Air and Space Museum?
• Did you know the Wright Brothers’ Kitty Hawk Flyer is there?
