Summary
Create and interpret timelines and complete a 7-paragraph report describing six [6] historical events/national holidays.

Lesson Excerpt
1. Students identify six [6] national holidays, such as the following:

Inauguration Day January 20 Every 4th year
Washington’s Birthday February 3rd Monday
Memorial Day May Last Monday
Independence Day July 4
Columbus Day October Monday
Veteran’s Day November 11

2. Students will create a timeline listing the six national holidays.
Students can create a timeline using a ruler and a sheet of notebook paper, or the students can use their own creativity and draw/paste pictures/graphics [i.e., the American flag – using the stripes as timeline spaces/markers]. Students can receive extra credit points on the more creative timelines.
