About the Solid Shapes – Comparing 3-D Objects Lesson

Summary
The lesson builds upon preceding lessons on 2-D shapes and introduces the different aspects of 3-D objects. Depending upon the children’s reading levels, the reading could be done individually or in pairs.

Lesson Objectives
• The children will be able to identify, name and describe specific 3-D shapes.

• The children will be able to identify 3-D shapes in everyday objects.

Lesson Excerpt
We often talk about 3-D objects, but do you know what the ‘D’ stands for? D refers to the dimensions or measurements of the object. A 3-D object has three dimensions – height, width and depth. Today, we are going to look at 5 different 3-D shapes: a sphere, a cone, a cube, a cuboid and a cylinder.
